Author Chat with Darlene L. Turner on her New Release, Safe House Exposed

My reader friends, you are in for a treat. Darlene L. Turner is a fellow romantic suspense author with a new release! I am counting down the days until the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference where I will have the opportunity to meet her in person, but for now, I’m thrilled for her to share a little about herself and her new book, Safe House Exposed.

When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer?

Darlene: Shortly after I picked up my first Nancy Drew book! My love of mystery and writing started then and I began writing my own version – the “Mindy Dobson” series. I wish I’d kept them as it would be fun to go back and read it (and laugh). I always wanted to write but stopped until I was older.

What prompted you to write this story?

Darlene: Witness protection has always intrigued me and I knew I needed to write a story about it. That’s where the story was born.

Relationships can be complicated, and I’m intrigued by your premise about a border patrol officer, her daughter, and her estranged former brother-in-law. In what way does your story offer hope and second chances for broken relationships?

Darlene: In Safe House Exposed, Emma and Mason have a strained relationship, but when they first met years before, Mason had asked her out. She said no. Years later, she married his brother but soon realized she chose the wrong brother after his abuse had started. However, God gave her a second chance when Mason becomes their protector when she and Sierra are fleeing for their lives. God uses their circumstance to bring them together, so they could find true love.

What message do you hope readers will take away from Safe House Exposed?

Darlene: Mason and Emma both feel God blindsided them with their struggles. They had their lives all planned out, but their path changed, and in their eyes, not for the good. However, they will eventually see God’s timing is perfect and He knows best. This is something we all battle with at times, so I’m hoping readers will take away that God is our Protector through everything.

You wear many hats, aside from being an author! You also co-lead the Blue Ridge Reader Connections group and teach at writing conferences. Would you like to share about these opportunities and why you enjoy them?

Darlene: I’m honored to be part of the BRRC and teaching at Blue Ridge. I love connecting readers and authors as well as sharing what I’ve learned with other writers. So many authors have helped me along my journey, so I want to pay it forward. I’m excited about these opportunities as I know they will stretch me into learning more about the craft and different aspects of our writing world.

How can readers connect with you?

Darlene: I love hearing from readers! They can contact me through my website – darlenelturner.com

Can you share about what next project you have in the works?

Darlene: Sure. I’m currently working on a K-9 search and rescue story coming in March of 2023. The dog is a golden retriever named Hercules.
