14 Verses of Hope for Fall

Changing seasons can bring mixed emotions. On the one hand, we might anticipate what’s to come: special family traditions, maybe foliage (if you don’t live in Florida like me), and cooler temperatures. On the other hand, we might fight anxious feelings: like maybe we thought we’d be farther along on projects, goals, or life in general by now. Maybe we feel “behind,” “too late,” or perhaps dreading upcoming holidays that may not look the same anymore.

Whatever you’re facing at this change of seasons, be encouraged by God’s Word, which remains a constant well of hope. Start with these hope-filled verses, which are in no particular order. I encourage you to look them up in your own Bible (I used the ESV), and consider the contexts as well.

1. God’s Word Never Changes.

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever” (Isaiah 40:8).

2. Jesus Christ is Always the Same.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

3. God Cares for You.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:6-7).

4. God Hears You.

“But for you, O Lord, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer” (Psalm 38:15).

5. The Lord Lifts You Up.

“The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand” (Psalm 37:23-24).

6. The Lord Is Near.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

7. The Lord Strengthens Your Heart.

“Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!” (Psalm 31:24)

8. The Lord Gives Light to Your Path.

“For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness” (Psalm 18:28).

9. The Lord is Your Safe Place.

“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8).

10. The Lord Lifts Your Head.

“But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head” (Psalm 3:3).

11. God Keeps Your Tears.

“You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?” (Psalm 56:8)

12. God Sustains You.

“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:22).

13. God Hears Prayer.

“O you who hear prayer, to you shall all flesh come” (Psalm 65:2).

14. God is Your Portion.

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73:26).

Dear Lord, thank You that even though our seasons and circumstances change, You remain the same. Thank You for the gift of Your presence, no matter what we are facing. May we keep our eyes fixed on You through life’s highs and lows.
